Took some time this afternoon to replace the eyes in four of my newer dolls. These are all Volks Super-Dollfie dolls, so their eyes were all hot-glued in, which is a thing Volks does that irritates the hell out of everyone. Most companies use some kind of putty to install doll eyes. I usually will change out a doll's eyes when I get a chance. Mack's silicon earplugs do a great job for keeping them in place and also makes it easy to change them out if I feel like it.

I found some online directions on how to remove the hot glue without damaging the dolls, but it was delicate and careful work.

The new eyes are all urethane rather than glass--I tend to prefer urethane eyes because they catch light better when you try to photograph the dolls. Volks tends to use high-domed eyes, so they sit differently in the eyewells than the eyes I like to use. These new eyes were Enchanted Doll "Marble" eyes, which I haven't used before. They tend to look more realistic due to the coloring. They have the usual high quality that ED eyes have, but I'm interested to see how they photograph.

It's amazing how just changing eyes out alters the personality of a doll!

Everything went okay, no mishaps, thank goodness. It's easy to knock out the eyelashes when getting hot glue out, but my care paid off. Although one older doll could use either having her lashes re-glued or a new pair. I haven't done that before, so I'll experiment with the technique on a less-expensive doll first!

Alas, no pictures. It's been cloudy and rainy for the last couple of weeks and I can't get good light. I really need to put together a light-box when I have some time to experiment with it.

My husband was kind enough to get me a doll for Christmas and she arrived today! She's one of the Volks Standard Super-Dollfies, Coco. They are discontinuing her as a standard, and I was hoping to get her before she went away. I decided to name her Miyu.

Here she is in her box:

As a Standard doll, she comes with a little pajama-like outfit, a certificate, an instruction booklet, and a random wig. I didn't get the one I wanted, but I can use it for another doll.

The headplate:

The default wig looked cute on her, but not what I had in mind for her character.

Trying on various wigs borrowed from my Dollfie Dreams, all from Leekeworld:

Soft brown in braids:

Spring Mint. This one actually looked really good, but the dark glass eyes don't catch the light well.

This peach-pink one looked really good, but it belongs to another doll!

The Baby Pink wig was nice, also.

I bought a dress so she wouldn't be in her PJ's all the time. Please forgive the clutter! I was trying to get these pictures in before it got dark!

Actually, I think the outfit looks cute without the bonnet and apron, too!

Thanks for sharing this box opening with me!

Very happy, as I have two dolls arriving soon, one for Christmas and one for my birthday (which is at the end of January). Volks SD Coco and Volks SD Chiyo. My husband let me get them now since they are being discontinued as standard dolls and I didn't want to risk losing out, which happened to me with MSD Mire. I did eventually buy her from Mandarake, but with the shipping and such, it was more expensive than if I had gotten her at Volks USA.

Coco should arrive tomorrow, Chiyo probably next week. I am thinking of naming them Miyu and Kasumi, but that will depend on how they look in person.

I'm so thrilled! Yes, these are standard dolls, but I like the face-ups and while the head-molds are available as Full-Choice, as standard dolls they are more affordable than the FCS dolls. Also, they are still single-jointed. The new Volks Standard SDs will have the peanut-joints in the arms, which just does not look good to me at all.

I did a "Make an offer" on a lot of 11 SD shoes, which brought the prices down to a more reasonable level. The seller is still almost certainly making a profit, but my big girls need shoes. Luckily, these dolls can share wigs with my Dollfie Dreams, and some clothes as well.

My husband, who doesn't much care for my dolls, but thinks the Dollfie Dream dolls are cute, was surprised to find out that DD had a release from Sword Art Online, one of his favorite series. If I had known, I would have tried the lottery for them.
